The Yellows were back in action after another enforced break to play Crook Town Hornets who had beaten Wear earlier in the season. The previous defeat had been a very underwhelming performance so the lads were eager to to put in a better display this time around.
The opening minutes showed that the Yellows were up for the game. A good run from Reggie on the right hand side saw him fouled on the edge of the box. Lucas took the free kick and after a bit of a scramble the Crook keeper managed to force the ball out for a corner. Lucas again took the resulting corner, although his corner was cleared at the near post the ball came back out to him just inside the box. He controlled well and curled the ball into far top corner to give the Yellows an early lead.
The yellows were first to every ball at this point with Sean, Reggie and Oscar particularly good in the opening minutes. Lucas and Reggie both had half chances before Riley B was fouled in the box. He dusted himself off and hammered the ball into almost the same spot as Lucas' earlier strike. 2-0 to the Yellows after 15 minutes.
Against the run of play Crook scored a great goal in the 17th minute as a good run was followed with a good shot into the top corner from 20 yards to make it 2-1 after 17 minutes.
The game became a little more even from that. Sean and Lucas both had a couple of good runs but it was up to a good save from Callum to keep the Yellows lead at Half-time.
The second half became a little more scrappy. Crook had a little more of the ball but the Wear back 4 kept them at bay for most of the half. United had a couple of chances from a Sam free kick and corner but nobody was able to get onto the end of the balls in. This was to prove important as a poorly given away free kick saw Crook go level. Callum's save was met by Olly T go to clear the ball. Unfortunately the Crook players showed the kind of determination that the Yellows have lacked as they closed the ball down. This saw the ball hit a Crook player and loop over Callum into the net to make it 2-2 with 12 minutes left.
The goal hit the Yellows hard and another poorly given away free-kick 20 yards from Goal was hit into the top corner by the Crook player just 2 minutes later. With 10 minutes left the Yellows had to show effort to try to get back into the game. Lucas and both Riley's had decent runs. Sam had a shot just wide but Crook also looked dangerous with Olly, Jacob and Callum all having to be alert. The final action of the game almost saw Wear go level. A free kick from Sam was brilliantly curled through for Reggie to run onto. Reggie beat the Crook player to the ball and lifted the ball over the keeper. Just as it looked that the lads were going to get the third successive draw of the year the ball bounced just wide of the post.
Overall the Yellows didn't deserve to lose but perhaps didn't quite deserve to win. Lucas, Olly T, Sean and Reggie all had good games but it was Oscar who took the Star Player award for his effort up front and for some very nice passes throughout his time on the pitch.
